R.E.P.O.R.T. April–2025
It is May, whatever; this is my April REPORT, and there will be another one later this month. It has been a wild ride, and we aren't even half way done with the year.
Welcome to the R.E.P.O.R.T. of the month. This is a post that goes over my monthly brain dump. This will include recipes, life, and other tidbits that you may find interesting. Try them out and let me know about it! Want to see what I watched and read this month? Reading - Wikipedia
I will admit that most of my time online is reading Wikipedia articles. I am a bit of an information nerd. Therefore, I love learning something new every day. I mainly read up on the history of certain events, but I also use it to answer some questions I have stirring in my brain. One that has been big in my mind this past week is how New World monkeys came from Old World monkeys, but we don't understand how the New World monkeys made it to South America. Currently, there is a running theory that the Atlantic Ocean was a lot narrower than it is now and that the monkeys possibly floated on a naturally made raft of sorts. I am not sure how much I believe that theory, but I also don't think we will ever definitely know due to the events taking place over 35 million years ago. I will continue pondering monkey business for now.
Eating - Marinated Eggs
I have been enjoying prepping my breakfast the night before, so I don't have to think about it the next day. I have an egg steamer that makes hard-boiled eggs easily. Right now, I make around six at a time because I only eat around 2 eggs a day to avoid too much cholesterol. I like to put the eggs in a container with a bit of soy sauce, cooking wine, garlic, and a small dash of sugar. I put enough of the liquid mixture in the container to have the eggs soak a bit in it. By the next day or many hours later, the eggs have soaked up that savory taste. They taste great with rice, and they take very little effort to make. It is a current staple in my fridge.
Playing - 2 Suit Spider
I love going on a treadmill and trying to play a game of spider. It makes the time go by like nothing, and I can focus on the game versus how my body is aching. It reminds me of playing solitaire with my grandparents as a kid. It has been getting my brain working out while working out my body. I have a playlist that has a matching BPM to match my steps. Spider is quite difficult if you have more than 2 suites in the game. I still have difficulty solving the games on the treadmill. I do feel myself thinking through the logic of it when I am just daydreaming. The same thing happened when I would play Tetris a lot. There was a study done on traumatic emotional events having less of a negative impact on the brain if the person played Tetris shortly after it. I wonder if the same logic is there for card games.
Obsessing - Godzilla
Watching old Godzilla movies is something my boyfriend enjoys a lot. We have been watching them together lately, and it has been really enjoyable. The TOHO-produced Godzillas are very corny, and the plot lines are incredibly comical at times. Everyone seems to have loved working on the films. It seems unreal that there are over thirty Godzilla movies that TOHO produced. Over 4 decades of our favorite cat-looking lizard monster.
Recommending - Prepping for the long term
Every day in this current administration is more dangerous and expensive than the next. If you have the option to, start getting some dry goods/long shelf-life foods with every grocery visit. It will be beneficial to keep a bit of food stocked up. I have been investing in dried beans and grains. Look for some good sources of fiber and protein. Get ready to start making struggle meals like that of college students. Rice and beans may become boring, so have some variety with them. Rice cooker meals are effortless and affordable; I make one about every other week. So use that Costco membership you are paying for and go to Grocery Outlet for cheap but quality frozen food. We are going to see a lot more get worse before it gets any better.
Treating - Taking time for myself
Grief is always a difficult thing to take on, but there is so much collective grief happening in this world that it seems impossible to escape the overwhelming feeling of it. If we can't escape from those feelings of grief, then we must embrace them. We will be moving forward either way, so it is better to face it than hide. We don't have to face it head-on, but it will only hurt more to ignore the negative feelings present. Taking time to feel your emotions can be hard, but overall better for us. Don't analyze your feelings; just let them be and feel. Cry for the people and things you miss, grieve the loss you have been putting aside, and be happy in knowing that is proof of their love and existence. This pain that feels unbearable at times is how we know we do matter in this world, despite how small everything may make us seem.
