How is No Buy Going?

It is going well, I do think my expenses that I was trying to avoid are now being flowed into other expenses, but I may not disagree with that. I think I have spent a lot more money on online services than physical items. I do try to buy for longevity, but in this day and age, there is no "for longevity" anymore. Everything is meant to break, but some are designed to break faster. How much have spent this year? Should I even stress myself out to check?

  • Beauty

I have been successful in this category! I have been using the same eyeliner pencil for two months, it is smaller than my picky now, I am trying to see how much longer I can go before I have to break out a new one. I have been trying to wear more makeup to get back into the hobby. It has been interesting to see how I can get creative with the limited supplies I will get to in this journey.

  • Technology

Okay, so I have been buying refurbished technology. That has been a great experience. I am trying to set up a media server. It is an interesting process as there is always a need for space and memory. I had hardware limitations for some of the content I like to create in blender and video editing. I managed to get a refurbished HP desktop with 64G of RAM for under 300 dollars, which I think it is a good deal.

  • Fashion

I did buy some new glasses, my current ones have this peeling layer on them. I had to replace them, and eyebuydirect was having a sale for Valentine's Day. I bought heart shaped transitionals for my light sensitivity and got good quality lenses. I hope that I measured everything correctly and I don't need to send them back. I am gonna try and make some clothes and repair the ones I already own. I have a good quality sewing machine and will start with hemming my jeans. I need to roll up my jeans all the time, so this is something that will be useful to me.

  • Home

I bought some bulk garbage bags and laundry detergent at Costco in January, I don't think I will need to restock them for some time. I also bought bulk cat food, but my cat is somewhat picky so it is a hit or miss and whether or not it was worth it. I have been saying a bunch of my recycling to reuse as storage containers and dividers in my drawers. I am feeling really good about my food waste, but I do wish there was a better way for me to compost. I may try and see if my apartment is interested in starting a program. That and a community garden, I think we have the space and opportunity for community.

  • Office

I haven't bought any pens or paper, I have been trying to actually use the stuff that I own. I do not want to horde things that were meant to be used. What is the point of the item if I can't enjoy it when I am living? I have been reusing a bunch of old supplies that have been in my bookshelf for many years. Continued education does motivate me to be more productive. I just hope the exams are better than high school.

  • Online

As I mentioned before, I have been spending more money on online things. I have been trying to make sure it is for professional development. I think it is good investments, but if I ever get swamped, I can cancel them really quickly.

  • Arts and Crafts

I have been collecting cardboard for an art idea that I had with acrylics. I think I can just create with the materials I currently have and not have to buy more for some time. I haven't run out of anything yet.

Final Thoughts

How do you think I am doing in my No Buy challenge? Have you been doing the same challenge? Let me know by sending me an email or following me on Bluesky. We are in unpredictable times, so we have to look out for each other. Reach out if everything seems like it is too hard to handle. You are not alone, and it takes small efforts of connection to create strong communities.
